Classroom Procedures

*Morning - School begins at 8:45.  Students may wait in the gym after 8:15.  If you must drop your child off earlier, please enroll him/her in our latchkey program.

*Snack - We have a snack each afternoon.  Please have your child bring a small snack each day.  Drinks and Lunchables are not permitted, nor is anything that must be eaten with a spoon.  Suggestions: small bags of crackers, cereal, grapes, or popcorn, small apple, banana, fruit snacks, string cheese, raisins.

*Recess - We go outside for recess three times each day.  Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately, and is able to zip/button their own coat.

*Homework is assigned on most nights.  Please check your child's folder each night for homework or notes.  Beginning in October, any homework that is not turned in on the day it is due will result in 5 minutes recess lost.  Help us teach your child responsibility!

*Sight Words - We will study more than 50 sight words this year.  Sight words are words that a child should recognize and not sound out.  Five new words will be sent home each week.  Please practice them every night.  Students will be tested over sight words periodically.

*Visitor policy - All parents/visitors MUST sign into the office upon entering the building.  Parents and younger children are not permitted on the playground when students are present without a visitors pass.

*Lunch - The kindergarten classes eat lunch at 11:00am.  You are welcome to join your child for lunch or take them out to lunch.  If you will be eating the school lunch, please let us know that morning what you will be having.  Students must be back by 11:55am if they go out to lunch.

*Specials - The kindergarten has specials on Fridays from 1:00-3:00.  They go to music, PE, computers, and library during that time.  Please make sure that your child returns their library book and wears tennis shoes on Fridays.

*Volunteering -Volunteers are always needed in specials classes, and to teach art once a month to each class.  Also, please join the PTO for more volunteer opportunities.

*Birthdays - Students may bring in treats for their birthday.  Treats are usually eaten at lunchtime, and must be here before noon.  Please check with your child's teacher for allergies before sending treats.  Do not send in whole cakes.

*Dismissal - Students who are picked up will wait outside the gym doors, or in the gym during inclement weather.  If a change in transportation is made, please send a note or call the office.

*Communication - Communication with your child's teacher is key for your child's success in school.  Please e-mail or call your child's teacher with any questions or concerns.
