Scholastic Reading Counts!
October 30, 2006
Scholastic Reading Counts! ® is a reading motivation and management program. The PTO has sponsored this program at LaVerna Evans Elementary School.
First, the students take the Scholastic Reading Inventory, an computer-based assessment test, to determine their reading level. They choose a book from the library coded at this reading level. After they read it, they may then take a Scholastic Reading Counts! computer test at school to measure their comprehension. The child receives points if he/she passes the tests. Points are rewarded according to the difficulty level and length of the book.
Each grade-level team determines how they implement the program into their curriculum. Most teams at LaVerna Evans give out reward certificates when the students achieve 25, 50 and 100 points.
