Volunteer Opportunities
Computer and Library Volunteers
LaVerna Evans' Computer and Library Volunteer Program is intended to provide more hands for working with students, promote the concept of school and community as partners in learning, and increase community support for our school. Listed below are the specific goals of the volunteer program:
• To enlist and strengthen the cooperation of the parents in the education of their children.
• To provide volunteer help in the computer lab to better meet the individual needs of the children.
• To develop an environment that encourages friendly two-way communication between home and school.
• To develop a cooperative partnership between parent and teacher for the benefit of the children.
• To allow students to view familiar adults as examples of lifelong learners.
• To provide a continuous public relations feeder system from the school through the parents to the community to create greater understanding of educational needs and goals.
• To allow parents to make a significant contribution to the children, the school, and the community.
Your gift of time and talent, whether small or substantial, adds to the effectiveness of our technology curriculum and library program. The willingness of all of the volunteers to help is concrete evidence of this community's encouragement and support of the school and the district. It is a demonstration of a shared concern for the education of the children.
Effective and responsible volunteers are essential to the success of the computer and library programs. If you are interested in volunteering in the computer lab or in the library, please contact the school.
PTO Volunteers
Various opportunities are available to share your talents. You may contact our PTO president by leaving a message at the school office.
Get Smart with Art
The Evans PTO is continuing the "Get Smart with Art" at Evans during the 2006/2007 school year. We always need volunteers for this supplementary art program for our children during the school day.
District Training
Our volunteers now undergo district-wide training in regards to policies and procedures in working with students in the school. One training session will cover various volunteer positions in all the schools in the district. Parents who have received previous district volunteer training need not attend again. Trainings are held monthly either during the school day or in the evening. All trainings are held in the media lab at Marie Schaefer School. Scheduled dates are the following:
- October 16, 5:30 p.m.
- November 13, 9:00 a.m.
- December 6, 9:00 a.m.
